Welcome to my personal website, I greatly appreciate the interest!
As a human factors and ergonomics enthusiast, I am passionate about helping people through sensible design. User satisfaction is the key to success in my book. By promoting disruptive thinking, universal accessibility, and design equality, I strive to empower individuals and elevate the outcome of our everyday interactions.
Born and raised in the Netherlands, I earned a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and a Master's in Human-Technology Interaction. This transdisciplinary background allowed me to bridge the gap between my appeal to innovative technologies and fascination with user experiences. In addition to engineering, I studied topics such as human computer interaction, environmental and social psychology, cognitive science, and behavior. In pursuit of a PhD, I then ventured to the US in aspiration of broadening my personal views and adding more depth to my academic horizon.
At Northeastern University (NEU), I focused my award winning dissertation on augmenting computer accessibility for those who experience physical disability. Always putting people over technology, I felt motivated by my belief that ‘disability’ should never be used to define a personal trait; Instead, I view it as a situational constraint resulting from inadequate design. In addition to receiving the "Excellence in Research" Award at NEU's 2012 Research Expo, my work has been featured in the Boston Globe, Rheumatologist magazine, and NEU's Empower fundraising campaign.
I have conducted experiments in Europe, North-America, and Asia, examining individual differences through intelligent research design. During my PhD dissertation, I worked as a RA at NEU's Intelligent Human-Machine Systems Lab, while simultaneously gaining valuable coaching experience as a TA over the duration of 7 semesters and 14 undergraduate and graduate courses. I have also interned at the Royal Netherlands Air Force and was trained as a multilingual snowboard instructor in Austria.
